This episode of Inside 361 explores a complicated boiler refit for Royal and Derngate Theatre.
The Royal Theatre in Northampton opened in 1884, with the Derngate added in 1983. This presents a unique challenge, as the boiler system needs to service both these performance spaces as well as the foyer and atrium.
Detailed planning is essential, so technical consultant Douglas Ford regularly meets with lead engineer Ryan Green and the theatre management. There is no interruption of service for the theatre because the old system is removed in stages while the new energy-efficient Remeha Eco Pro boilers are installed.
The building has expanded around the existing boilers, so a three-man team of 361 Degrees engineers carefully deconstructs and removes them piece by piece.
