Scope of Work

Facilities Overview:

  • Level 24 (hLAB): A high-spec virology and immunology lab equipped with Containment Level 2 and 3 areas. It supports both pre-clinical and clinical research.
  • Level 25: Hosts isolation rooms with ensuite bathrooms, scenic views, nurse call systems, and entertainment for participants. Additional amenities include outpatient spaces, a commercial kitchen, nurse stations, and open-plan offices with breakout areas.

Mechanical Strategy:

Due to the nature of the clinical spaces, the building’s existing ventilation systems couldn’t be used. Dedicated ventilation systems with HEPA filtration and defined pressure controls were installed on both floors:

  • Level 25: Two air handling units serve the isolation rooms.
  • Level 24: One unit supports clinical areas; another services the CL3 lab.

New louvres were added to replace glazing, allowing required airflow. Backup fans ensure corridor pressure stability in case of system failure

Additional Mechanical features include:

  • Energy-efficient, water-cooled VRF systems for heating and cooling.
  • Integration with the base build for hot water and kitchen extraction.
  • Class 1 safety cabinets, autoclave, and waste sink in the CL3 lab.
  • Building Managment System to monitor and control all mechanical systems
